» Futaba Town Mayor Idogawa Resigned

Mr.Katsutaka Idogawa, mayor of Futaba town where No.5 & No.6 reactor of Fukushima Daiichi Nulcear power station are located, expressed his resignation on 23rd January. Responding to local newspapers, Mr.Idogawa said he felt he failed to get understanding of the town people and cannot continue his job against his belief.

Futaba town evacuated its town office to Kazo City in Saitama prefecture together with 1200 affected town people after the nuclear disaster to avoid its people’s additional exposure to radiation.

Mayor Idogawa delivered his speech on NGO Information Meeting of United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva on 30th October, 2012 to testify that human rights of the people are violated by lack of information about radiation leakage and negligence of authority after the nuclear accident.

The municipal assembly of town of Futaba has passed a no-confidence motion against Mayor Katsutaka Idogawa on December 2012 and Mayor Idogawa dissolved the municipal assembly on 26th Decmber. The town assembly opposed to the Mayor over a controversial plan to construct a temporary storage facility for radioactive soil amassed from decontamination work.
