The Ministry of Environment had conducted thyroid tests to 4,365 children aged between 3 and 18 in three other cities far from Fukushima. The samples were taken in Nagasaki, the capital of Nagasaki Prefecture, Kofu, the capital of Yamanashi Prefecture, and Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture.
The result was roughly matched with the result of thyroid test in Fukushima prefecture. However, in the test conducted by the Ministry of Environment, 0-2 years old infants were not included, which are regarded as not developing small cysts or lumps easily.
Regardless of the result from this test, the Fukushima prefectural government has said it plans to continue conducting tests on the children involved throughout their lifetimes.
