» Kagoshima Gov. accepted the restart of Sendai nuclear plant

Kagoshima Gov. Yuichiro Ito accepted the explanation offered by Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Yoichi Miyazawa about the government’s plan to restart the Sendai nuclear power plant in the southwestern Japan prefecture.

The Kagoshima prefectural assembly plans to hold the vote and a majority of assembly members are expected to support the central government’s plan to restart the Nos. 1 and 2 reactors at the Kyushu Electric Power Co. plant in the city of Satsumasendai

The Nuclear Regulation Authority certified the Sendai nuclear plant as meeting the new safety regulations in September and the municipal assembly and mayor of Satsumasendai approved the restart last month.

The restart is expected to take place early next year.
