The Nuclear Regulation Authority decided to start a safety assessment on a reactor at the Higashidori nuclear plant in Aomori, northern Japan, although experts have yet to conclude an investigation of faults running under the complex.
Although NAR initially said it would not launch a full-fledged review of the No.1 reactor until the investigation of the faults is done, it has decided to begin the safety assessment on issues common with other boiling water reactors.
The decision “will not affect” the ongoing research on the faults, NRA Commissioner told a regular meeting of the nuclear watchdog.
