» Groundwater from Fukushima No.1 might be started releasing to the pacific ocean next week at the earliest

The government said that the radiation level of groundwater at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant site satisfied safety criteria in detailed analyses carried out by the plant’s operator and third-party institutions. All results showed that beta ray-emitting radioactive material, such as strontium-90, was at levels below that detectable by the equipment.
As it will take time to complete preparations, such as providing explanations to local communities, TEPCO may start releasing the groundwater into the adjacent Pacific Ocean on May 21st at the earliest.
