» 560,000 cubic meters of nuclear waste will be generated by 2027

TEPCO said it will have to substantially expand the radioactive waste storage capacity at Fukushima No.1 plant to accommodate waste over the next 13 years.

New radioactive waste generated over the years to fiscal 2027 will total 560,000 cubic meters, including 220,000 cubic meters of highly radioactive waste that will have to be stored at the site.

As existing facilities have a surplus capacity of 60,000 cubic meters, TEPCO will have to secure 160,000 cubic meters in additional capacity.
