According to the poll conducted by Asahi Newspaper, 59% of respondents oppose the restart of idle nuclear reactors, despite moves by the Abe administration to allow restarts as soon as this summer.
The newspaper randomly contacted 3,402 eligible voters, excluding some parts of Fukushima Prefecture and it received 1,721 valid responses. 59% of the respondents said they were opposed to the restart of nuclear power plants, whereas the 28 percent who said they supported the restart.
The newspaper asked the same question in previous surveys conducted in July and September 2013 and January 2014. In each of the past polls, 56 percent of the respondents opposed the restart of reactors.
