» Nuclear power twice costly than Government’s estimation

Nuclear power would be an option twice as costly in generating electricity as estimated by the government and even more expensive than natural gas-fired power plants or wind farms, if a plant is required to have latest safety equipment and to reprocess all spent nuclear fuel, according to a research group, Japan Renewable Energy Foundation.

It said the nuclear power generation would cost up to 17.4 yen per kilowatt-hour, about twice as costly as that of an estimate made by the government under the Democratic Party of Japan.
