TEPCO said on Nov.11th that it will build a new drainage channel to prevent toxic water from directly flowing into the Pacific Ocean when leaks occur at water storage tanks.
The new drainage channel will be built to direct toxic water to the plant’s port, which is separated from the sea with breakwaters. TEPCO decided on the move after it found in August that 300 tons of highly radioactive water had leaked from one of the tanks, part of which is believed to have flowed into the Pacific Ocean through existing drainage channels.
