» 1,130 tons of rainwater with radioactive substances dumped to the sea

TEPCO said on Sept 27th that it has dumped into the Pacific Ocean about 1,130 tons of rainwater caused by massive typhoon that had accumulated at the Fukushima No.1 nuclear power plant.

The rainwater was accumulating inside barriers set up around huge tanks to store radioactive water, but radioactive substances in it were below the allowable limit for release into the sea.

The utility said an estimated 8.85 million becquerels of radioactive substances emitting beta rays, such as strontium-90, have been discharged.
