The No. 4 reactor at Kansai Electric Power Co.’s Oi plant in Fukui Prefecture, Japan’s sole operating reactor is set to be taken offline for routine checkups later on Sep 15th, and Japan will be in the state of without any nuclear power supply for the second time following the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident in 2011.
All of 50 commercial reactors in Japan will likely remain offline at least until the end of this year, with the safety assessments by nuclear regulators and the procedures for winning local approval for restarts expected to take time.
