Some municipalities in Fukushima Prefecture are increasingly calling for a second round of decontamination work as radiation levels in some places remain above an annual radiation dose of one millisievert which is the Japanese government’s target.
Decontamination work has already been carried out in many residential areas in Fukushima prefecture, but radiation levels in some cases have not dropped to one millisievert per year or below.
Some municipalities have launched field surveys. For example, in Kawauchi village, where some areas are designated as an emergency evacuation advisory zone, level of air radiation doses exceeded one millisievert for some 480 out of 1,061 houses in the place even after decontamination work.
