» 4 utilities apply for permission to restart 12 reactors

The Nuclear Regulation Authority announced on June 19 its new nuclear reactor safety requirements, which enter into force on July 8.

Four utilities are planning to apply for permission to restart 12 reactors at six nuclear power plants across Japan as soon as a set of new safety requirements.
Ten of the 12 reactors are idle. The other two are running, but are expected to go offline for regular inspections in September.
