» Who will pay for the decontamination cost around the plant?: TEPCO refuses to do so

Tokyo Electric Power Co. refuses to pay 10.55 billion yen ($106 million) for decontamination work around Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant, saying it is under no legal obligation to do so.

However, the Environment Ministry denied and said that the money is part of the 14.9 billion yen in decontamination costs that TEPCO is required to pay under that special measures law to deal with radioactive substances from the March 2011 accident at the Fukushima plant. If it is not able to get TEPCO to pay, the amount might be shouldered by the taxpayers.
