The online survey, conducted on Feb. 14 and 15 by the Consumer Affairs Agency, revealed the level of concern on radiation in food. 5,176 consumers answered the questions aged in their 20s through 60s in the disaster-hit prefectures of Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima and Ibaraki, as well as in such major consumption areas as Saitama, Chiba, central Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka and Kobe.
To the question“Are you concerned about the production area when buying food?”, some 68 percent of the respondents said “I am” or “I am to some extent.”Among them, 41 percent(28 percent of all respondents) said it is because they want to purchase food free from radioactive materials.
